Several days ago I had to go to a follow up doctor’s appointment regarding my recent ankle surgery. Since the office was really close to a park with a lake I decided after my appointment, I would go try out the lake and see if anything was biting. It was a new fishing hole for me and I was excited about trying out the new water. I had heard from someone that there are some nice fish in it. I had made only a few casts (no bites) when I heard footsteps on the walk path behind me. I turned to say hello to whoever it was and noticed that they were very tired looking (it is a long walk around the lake). I mentioned something to them about how tired they seemed and they decided that I was someone that would listen. So we sat on the grass and I listened to them for the next several hours. I believe God was telling me that this person needed to have someone listen to them. Sensing the need for them to get some Godly consul, I opened up the scriptures and shared God’s word with them. It was just what they needed to hear. Needless to say fishing was out of the question. But that was OK because sometimes out plans are not God’s plans. This time listening was more important than fishing. God says in Isaiah 55:8 that “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” We never know what tomorrow has in store. This person may not have had more time and needed to hear from God’s word. Listen to what is said in Luke 12:18: “And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” We never know what lays on the other side of “now”. God can call us home (if we are a believer) or we die and He we go to be in the place of eternal torment. Take advantage of now and be obedient unto the heavenly call, listen to the Holy Spirits prompting and obey. Someone is in need!
